About me

If you are considering counselling or longer term therapy you will want to be sure that your chosen counsellor is a 'good fit' with you and is experienced and knowledgeable about the difficulties you are bringing to counselling. You will expect them to be respectful, compassionate and caring but also professional and suitably qualified.

After a career as a tutor in Higher Education and then as the owner and manager of a tourism business I decided to work in a more focused and therapeutic way.

I began by completing a Certificate in Counselling Skills with COSCA (Counselling in Scotland) and then trained at the Edinburgh Gestalt Institute (EGI) as a counsellor and psychotherapist, gaining my Post Grad Diploma at the end of four years. I also undertook training in Switzerland with the Gestalt Associates Training Los Angles (GATLA). After training I have continued to invest time in my Continuous Professional Development (CPD). Among numerous courses I have completed are Body Work with the renowned American practitioner Michael Clemmens; the Applied Suicide Intervention Training (ASIST) and have undertaken courses in Domestic Violence, Family Constellations, Body and Shame, Disillusionment and pessimism. I have also taken a number of workshops with Ernesto Spinelli.

I have been passionate about counselling and psychotherapy since I began my training 16 years ago. I feel very privileged that so many people have worked with me to change their lives. As an Existential therapist, I am interested in who you are, who you wish to be and will focus on you as a whole person. I regard you as a completely unique person with a capacity to face life's difficulties in your own special way. You are you, I will not judge you, only try to understand what brings you to counselling and how, together, we can work to make your life after counselling, life better. All of us have difficulties in our lives. Looking at ourselves closely to understand how we do what we do, has the potential to bring self-awareness and the ability to reflect and thus enable us to live more fulfilled lives; this self-understanding can positively affect those we love, live and work with.
